Beacon Purchasing

The brief

Beacon Purchasing re-launched their full service to national customers and suppliers through their new digital platform developed in Sitefinity.

With mobile and centralised data as the key priority, the new site underwent a year long strategy and analysis process, with Spinbox selected as the premium UK Sitefinity partner. Within 3 months, Spinbox re-developed the Beacon website from the ground up, providing full digital solution for Beacon marketing, Purchasing team and most importantly digital accounts for Suppliers and Customers.

The solution

Beacon Purchasing came to Spinbox with an existing website which served their customers and supplies but sought improvements to turn it into an industry leading portal and required a team of Sitefinity experts to help make this a reality. They tuned to Sitefinity creators Telerik to find the best team for them to partner with, who in turn recommended Spinbox due to our Platinum status and extensive experience of delivering advanced functionality for clients.

As is common with many of our projects, Spinbox knew that the first step towards delivering improved functionality and a first class user experience was to talk to the client to really understand their requirements. The knowledge gained from these conversations allowed us to move into a wireframing process, working collaboratively with the client and employing our many years of user centred design experience to produce a site structure which we knew would work for both Beacon’s customers and suppliers alike.

A first class website was always the goal but timelines and budget availability for delivery of this project were potentially limiting factors. Spinbox employed it’s agile project management experience to ensure that key features were delivered on time and to budget whilst also providing the flexibility to respond to changing project requirements without jeopardising the high profile go-live date.

The final product brought a host of advanced custom features to Beacon’s business providing a step change in how they engaged with their customer and supplier base, all delivered through a clean easy to navigate user interface.

Dashboards were developed which allowed customers and suppliers to see at a glance their account activity and see the benefit of working with Beacon for their hospitality industry requirements. As well as integrating our development into Beacon’s own CRM to meet their billing requirements, Spinbox’s development team helped Beacon offer CRM functionality to their customers and suppliers too - giving them complete control over their purchasing requirements and allowing suppliers to promote specific products and manage their profiles without the need for in-depth knowledge of the content management system. Finally Spinbox developed a bespoke communications area, providing Beacon staff the power to create and deliver tailored promotions to customers and suppliers based on their interests.

The results

Over phase 1, Spinbox released the Supplier portal with a record breaking 1 month process with the aid of the extensive API from Sitefinity.

Phase 2 saw the full website and mobile development of Beacon Purchasing providing a hugely successful launch of the new website. With dynamic data of accounts, purchasing and customer integration, the digital solution to launch Beacons new presence has provided the perfect platform to match the Beacon strategy.

Further integrations planned for 2014 and some nice surprises too, Beacon is heading for its rightful place at the top of the market.
